Blade Runner 2099 Release Date, Cast, Timeline and How to Watch in the UAE

Blade Runner 2099 premieres on Prime Video on November 25, 2026, with all eight episodes of the limited series arriving on the same day. UAE viewers will be able to watch the series on Prime Video.

The series is set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049 and stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. For viewers in the UAE, it arrives on a platform most households can already reach for the price of a coffee — and lands on the same day Prime Video closes out its other big November title.

Blade Runner 2099 Release Date and Episode Count

Amazon MGM Studios confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con on 24 July 2026 that all eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 will premiere on 25 November 2026, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

That is a full binge drop, not a weekly rollout. It is also a deliberate contrast with Rings of Power Season 3, which splits its eight episodes across three Wednesdays and delivers its final two on 25 November — the same day Blade Runner 2099 arrives in full.

The blade runner 2099 release date has moved more than once. The series was greenlit in September 2022 and was originally targeting late 2025, before the 2023 Hollywood strikes pushed production back by roughly a year, according to Deadline’s reporting on the delay. Amazon has described the show as a limited series, which suggests a self-contained story rather than a returning season.

Amazon has not announced a local release hour. Prime Video publishes on regional schedules, so UAE and GCC viewers should check the app on 25 November rather than converting a US drop time into GST (UTC+4).

Blade Runner 2099 Cast: Who Plays Who

The blade runner 2099 cast is led by two performers pulling from very different backgrounds. Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a veteran Replicant Blade Runner in the final days of her life. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive who takes on a Blade Runner identity as a last attempt to stop running.

Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) and Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy) are series regulars alongside them.

The recurring guest cast is deep: Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow), Amy Lennox (Only Child), Sheila Atim (The Woman King), Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon), Tom Burke (Furiosa) and Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley).

Behind the camera, Silka Luisa (Shining Girls) is showrunner and executive producer. Ridley Scott, who directed the original film, executive produces alongside Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Michael Green, Isa Dick Hackett and others. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shōgun) directed the first two episodes.

Where It Sits in the Timeline: 50 Years After 2049

Amazon’s official logline is short and pointed: fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, Los Angeles has been reborn — just not by humanity. Cora is forced to partner with Olwen to hunt down a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city.

That single line does a lot of work. The 1982 film was set in 2019 and asked whether a Replicant could be a person. Blade Runner 2049 was set 30 years later and asked whether a Replicant could reproduce. Blade Runner 2099 appears to move past the question entirely, into a city humans no longer run.

The teaser trailer points to a war fought somewhere between 2049 and 2099, and to Replicants holding the dominant position afterwards. Amazon has not published the details of that conflict, so treat the specifics as unconfirmed until the episodes land. The tagline released with the teaser — a future no longer under our control — is as far as the studio has gone on the record.

What to Watch First Before Blade Runner 2099

You need two films, and only two.

Blade Runner (1982). Ridley Scott’s original, with Harrison Ford as Deckard, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Several cuts exist; the Final Cut is the version Scott signed off on.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Denis Villeneuve’s sequel, starring Ryan Gosling and Ford. It was nominated for five Academy Awards and won for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. This is the film 2099 directly follows, so it is the one that matters most.

Amazon says both films are available to rent or buy on Prime Video ahead of the premiere. Rental catalogues vary by country, so check the store listing inside the UAE app rather than assuming the US catalogue applies.

The 2021 anime series Blade Runner: Black Lotus is optional background, not required viewing. Nothing announced so far ties it to the 2099 storyline.

How to Watch Blade Runner 2099 on Prime Video in the UAE and GCC

Blade Runner 2099 is a Prime Video exclusive. There is no cinema window and no second platform, so viewers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman will need a Prime Video account to watch it.

In the UAE, Prime Video is bundled into Amazon Prime membership rather than sold on its own. Amazon.ae lists the membership fee at AED 16 a month or AED 140 a year, both VAT-inclusive, with a 30-day free trial for new members. The annual plan works out to under AED 12 a month, which is why it sits at the cheaper end of streaming prices in the UAE. For a broader comparison, see our guide to the best streaming services in the UAE.

Before paying for anything separately, it is worth checking what you already have. UAE telecom operators fold several streaming services into home internet and postpaid packages, and the du and e& TV bundles change often enough that most subscribers underestimate what their plan includes.

Playback works through the Prime Video app on smart TVs, phones, tablets, streaming sticks and games consoles, or through a browser. Amazon has not yet published the Arabic audio and subtitle options for Blade Runner 2099; those normally appear on the title’s Prime Video listing closer to release.

What Is Still Unknown

Three things have not been confirmed. Amazon has not detailed the war that reshaped Los Angeles between 2049 and 2099. It has not said whether any character from the two films appears. And despite the “limited series” label, it has not ruled out continuing the story if the show performs.

Expect a full trailer and a press embargo lift in the weeks before launch. Until then, the blade runner 2099 release date of 25 November 2026 is the only hard date on the calendar — and for UAE viewers, it makes the last week of November the busiest stretch on Prime Video this year.
