The rings of power season 3 release date has officially been confirmed, giving Middle-earth fans a clear date for Sauron’s return. The third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video on November 11, 2026, with a multi-episode launch followed by two additional release dates.
Season 3 moves the story several years beyond the fall of Eregion and places the War of the Elves and Sauron at its centre. With the Dark Lord preparing to create the One Ring, the new episodes are expected to present a Middle-earth that is more divided, dangerous and firmly under Sauron’s growing influence.
Rings of Power Season 3 Release Date and Episode Schedule
Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that The Rings of Power Season 3 will premiere on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. The announcement replaces earlier speculation that the expensive fantasy series might not return until 2027.
Unlike Season 2, which opened with three episodes before moving to a weekly schedule, the third season will release its eight episodes across only three weeks. Four episodes will be available on the premiere date, followed by two episodes on each of the next two Wednesdays. Amazon’s official episode schedule is as follows:
| Release date | Episodes | Number of episodes |
|---|---|---|
| November 11, 2026 | Episodes 1–4 | Four episodes |
| November 18, 2026 | Episodes 5–6 | Two episodes |
| November 25, 2026 | Episodes 7–8 | Two episodes |
The entire season will therefore be available before the end of November.
Where Did The Rings of Power Season 2 End?
The second season concluded with the destruction of Eregion and the death of Celebrimbor. After manipulating the Elven smith in his fair Annatar form, Sauron completed the creation of the Nine Rings intended for mortal men. Celebrimbor eventually recognised Sauron’s deception but was unable to prevent the fall of his city. Adar and his Uruk forces successfully attacked Eregion, but Sauron later turned Adar’s followers against him. The Orc leader was killed by the very children he had attempted to protect, allowing Sauron to take control of the surviving Orc army. Galadriel fought Sauron but escaped after refusing to join him and surrendering herself to a new darkness.
Elsewhere, Prince Durin confronted his father beneath Khazad-dûm. King Durin III removed his Ring and sacrificed himself while fighting the Balrog, leaving Durin IV to face a disputed succession and the threat beneath the mountain. In Númenor, Pharazôn consolidated his power and declared the Faithful enemies of the kingdom. Míriel lost her political authority despite surviving the sea trial, while Elendil escaped with Narsil—the sword that will eventually become one of the most important weapons in Middle-earth.
The finale also confirmed that the Stranger is Gandalf. After confronting the Dark Wizard in Rhûn, he discovered his name and received a staff, positioning his storyline for a more direct struggle against the forces gathering in the East.
What Will Rings of Power Season 3 Be About?
Amazon’s official synopsis says Season 3 takes place five years after the fall of Eregion, with Middle-earth at war and Sauron working in Barad-dûr to forge the One Ring. Later promotional information identified this as a five-year time jump. The story takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. During this conflict, the Dark Lord seeks to forge the One Ring so that he can control the other Rings of Power, overcome the remaining resistance and bind the peoples of Middle-earth to his will.
This means Season 3 will not simply show Sauron planning his next move. He has already conquered large areas of Middle-earth, while major centres of resistance remain in Lindon, Rivendell and Khazad-dûm. Barad-dûr, his fortress in Mordor, has also risen by this stage of the story. The time jump allows the series to show the consequences of a long war without following every individual battle. Rivendell can develop from a temporary refuge into an established Elven stronghold, while Sauron’s armies and influence can spread across the continent.
Most importantly, the creation of the One Ring is no longer fan speculation. Amazon has explicitly confirmed that Sauron’s attempt to forge it will be central to the new season. However, events that have not been confirmed by Amazon , including the exact circumstances of every battle or the identities of all future Ring-bearers , should still be treated as theories.
Rings of Power Season 3 Cast and New Characters
Charlie Vickers returns as Sauron, with Morfydd Clark continuing as Galadriel. Robert Aramayo is back as Elrond, while Benjamin Walker returns as High King Gil-galad. Other returning cast members include Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Owain Arthur as Durin IV, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Trystan Gravelle as Pharazôn, Lloyd Owen as Elendil and Daniel Weyman as Gandalf.
Season 3 will also introduce several major characters:
- Jamie Campbell Bower plays Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-absent husband.
- Eddie Marsan appears as Thráin, the older brother of Durin IV.
- Andrew Richardson joins the story as Anárion, the brother of Isildur.
- Adam Young plays Marnûkh, an Orc who claims to have abandoned Sauron and offers to help the Elves.
- Simon Pegg provides the voice of the Balrog awakened beneath Khazad-dûm.
Marnûkh could be one of the most unpredictable additions. His proposed alliance with Galadriel and Arondir challenges both Elves to decide whether an Orc can genuinely oppose Sauron or whether he is leading them into a trap. Celeborn’s arrival is equally significant. The series previously established that Galadriel had not seen her husband since he went to war, and she apparently believed he had died. His return could reshape Galadriel’s personal story as well as the emerging political order among the Elves.

Best Rings of Power Watch Order for Newcomers
New viewers do not need to watch Peter Jackson’s films before starting the series. The Rings of Power takes place during the Second Age, thousands of years before the main events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The simplest viewing order is:
- The Rings of Power Season 1
- The Rings of Power Season 2
- The Rings of Power Season 3
- The Hobbit film trilogy
- The Lord of the Rings film trilogy
Watching the series first provides a chronological journey through Middle-earth’s screen history. However, viewers who already know the films will recognise names, locations, objects and historical connections that give the prequel additional meaning. With a confirmed November release, a compressed eight-episode schedule and the forging of the One Ring at the heart of its official story, rings of power season 3 is positioned to deliver the series’ most consequential chapter yet.
