Jimothy recently became an internet favorite thanks to his unusual short-spined appearance, and after a wave of fan requests, Blizzard says its team managed to add a functional version of him to the game.
Jimothy first gained attention online after Seattle locals began sharing photos and videos of the raccoon. Blizzard has now confirmed that Jimothy is being tested as a real in-game companion pet. The goal is for him to arrive with the upcoming Curse of Ula’tek update, though the company has warned that in-development content can still shift before release. The best part for players is that Jimothy will not simply be a store item. Blizzard has said the raccoon is intended to be earnable in-game, though the exact unlock method has not been revealed yet. The timing is also notable because Curse of Ula’tek will expand World of Warcraft’s housing features. Blizzard has confirmed that players will be able to place companion pets in their homes by using a pet bed decoration, with up to 10 pets inside and five outside. Indoor pets can either stay still or roam around, while outdoor pets will remain stationary.
Blizzard has not directly confirmed whether Jimothy will work with the housing system, but because he is being created as a companion pet, many players expect to display him in their virtual homes once the feature arrives.
Curse of Ula’tek is also set to bring more than just Jimothy. The update includes a new zone, raid, dungeon, world boss, delves, user interface improvements, guild and Discord chat integration, and other quality-of-life changes.
