NVIDIA DLSS 5 is a new AI rendering feature designed to improve visual realism rather than simply raise frame rates. It launched with NBA 2K27 in September 2026 and is supported on GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop GPUs and laptops. It can also be used through GeForce NOW Ultimate in regions where that service is officially available.
For PC players, the practical questions are simple: which GPUs support DLSS 5, which games have it today, and is an upgrade worthwhile? This guide explains how the technology works, how to enable it in NBA 2K27, and what the current DLSS 5 picture means for UAE gamers.
DLSS 5 at a glance
- Hardware: DLSS 5 currently requires a GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop GPU or laptop GPU.
- Games: NBA 2K27 is the only game with DLSS 5 available at the time of writing; NVIDIA has announced further titles without confirmed update dates.
- UAE access: A local RTX 50 Series PC or laptop is the dependable route, because GeForce NOW does not currently have official UAE availability.
What Is NVIDIA DLSS 5?
DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling. Since 2018, NVIDIA’s DLSS tools have used AI to reconstruct images: Super Resolution renders a game at a lower resolution and upscales it, Frame Generation inserts AI-made frames between rendered ones, and Ray Reconstruction cleans up ray-traced lighting. NVIDIA says the current DLSS 4.5 suite can draw 23 out of every 24 pixels on screen.

DLSS 5, in one line: it shifts the goal from performance to visual fidelity. According to NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 launch announcement, it adds the lighting and material detail that real-time limits have always forced developers to strip out: light passing naturally through skin, hair and foliage, softer skin tones under arena lights, and deeper contact shadows. It does not replace the older DLSS features. It sits on top of them as an optional final stage, and for players it is a single on/off toggle.
NVIDIA first showed DLSS 5 at its GTC conference in March 2026, when the demo needed two RTX 5090 cards. By launch, the company says, it had achieved a fivefold performance gain, enough to run DLSS 5 on a single card across the whole DLSS 5 RTX 50 Series line-up.
What Is 3D-Guided Neural Rendering?
3D-guided neural rendering is NVIDIA’s name for the core DLSS 5 technique, and it is the part that most needs DLSS 5 explained carefully. It is generative AI, but it does not work like an image generator that produces a different picture every time you type a prompt. Instead, the model takes the frame the game engine has already rendered, including its geometry, textures, colour, motion vectors and lighting data, and treats it as a fixed foundation. The engine decides what must stay; the AI decides how light and materials should behave on top of it.
NVIDIA stresses three properties:
- Deterministic: the same input frame always produces the same output, so a character’s face cannot drift or morph between frames.
- Temporally stable: the model works one frame in, one frame out, and uses the engine’s motion vectors to avoid shimmering as the camera moves.
- Fast: a compact model runs on the Tensor Cores of RTX 50 Series GPUs, at up to 4K on a single card.
Developers also get controls that players never see. They can choose between several AI models, adjust Structure Intensity (fine detail such as ambient occlusion, reflections and subsurface scattering) and Tone Intensity (broad lighting and colour, where zero keeps the game’s original colours), and use semantic masking to treat characters and environments differently. The output also scales with the input: a game with ray-traced or path-traced lighting gives DLSS 5 more to work with than a purely rasterised one.

Those controls matter because the technology has been controversial. When NVIDIA first demonstrated DLSS 5 in March, a Resident Evil Requiem clip drew criticism from players who said the character Grace Ashcroft looked noticeably different with it switched on. In NBA 2K27, developer Visual Concepts says it used a per-pixel control mask specifically to protect the scanned likeness of real NBA players. Whether other studios use those tools as carefully is the open question for the next wave of DLSS 5 games.
DLSS 5 vs DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation
The easiest way to understand DLSS 5 is that Super Resolution and Frame Generation buy you speed, while DLSS 5 spends it on realism.
| Feature | What It Does | Main Benefit | Supported GPUs |
|---|---|---|---|
| DLSS Super Resolution | Renders at a lower resolution, then AI upscales | Higher frame rates | All GeForce RTX GPUs |
| DLSS Frame Generation / Multi Frame Generation | AI generates extra frames between rendered ones | Smoother motion | Frame Generation: RTX 40 & 50 Multi Frame Generation: RTX 50 |
| DLSS 5 (3D-guided neural rendering) | AI enhances lighting and materials in the final frame | More realistic image | RTX 50 Series only |
That trade-off is the most important thing to understand before turning it on. NVIDIA’s headline figure of up to 370 frames per second at 4K on an RTX 5090 in NBA 2K27 is measured with Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation also enabled. DSOGaming reported that NVIDIA told it the cost of DLSS 5 on its own is roughly 50 to 60 per cent of performance. In practice, the features are designed to be used together, with upscaling and frame generation winning back the frames that neural rendering uses.
Which GPUs Support DLSS 5?
The short answer: the DLSS 5 supported GPUs are GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards only, on desktop and laptop. NVIDIA says DLSS 5 is available on all RTX 50 Series GPUs, which covers the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5060 and RTX 5050, plus their laptop versions. RTX 40, RTX 30 and RTX 20 cards are not on the list of DLSS 5 supported GPUs, because the feature relies on the newer Tensor Cores in the RTX 50 Series.
NVIDIA has published DLSS 5 RTX 50 Series performance figures for NBA 2K27 at the Ultra preset with ray tracing on, using the full DLSS suite:
| GPU | 1440p (up to) | 4K (up to) |
|---|---|---|
| RTX 5090 | 590 fps | 370 fps |
| RTX 5080 | 410 fps | Not published |
| RTX 5070 Ti | 350 fps | Not published |
| RTX 5070 | 260 fps | Not published |
At 1080p, NVIDIA says virtually all RTX 50 Series owners can play NBA 2K27 with DLSS 5 enabled. That means the cheaper cards are included, but 1080p is the realistic target for an RTX 5060 or RTX 5050.
Laptops count too. If you are shopping for a portable machine, our guide to the best gaming laptops for every budget covers RTX 50 Series models from entry-level RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 machines up to RTX 5090 flagships, and every one of them can run DLSS 5. Bear in mind that laptop GPUs run at lower power limits than desktop cards of the same name, so expect lower frame rates.

On the DLSS 5 UAE question, there is nothing region-specific to worry about on local hardware. DLSS 5 arrives through NVIDIA’s driver and the game itself, and NVIDIA has not announced any regional restriction, so an RTX 50 Series card or laptop bought in Dubai or Abu Dhabi gets the feature in the same way as anywhere else.
Which Games Support DLSS 5 Today?
At the time of writing, NBA 2K27 is the only game with DLSS 5 available to players. NVIDIA says more titles will add the feature in the coming weeks and months, but it has not confirmed individual update dates.
DLSS 5 games available now
- NBA 2K27: available now on PC with DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering for RTX 50 Series GPUs and eligible GeForce NOW Ultimate members.
Games NVIDIA has announced for future DLSS 5 support
NVIDIA’s March DLSS 5 announcement named the following games. This is an announced-support list, not a release schedule, so treat each title as upcoming until its developer confirms the update.
- AION 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black State, CINDER CITY and Delta Force.
- Hogwarts Legacy, Justice, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT and NTE: Neverness to Everness.
- Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, Sea of Remnants and Starfield.
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Where Winds Meet.
Most of these titles will need a patch rather than a new game release. For the wider release calendar beyond DLSS, see our round-up of the biggest video games coming in 2026.
One caution: before the official launch, DLSS 5 files leaked from NBA 2K27 and appeared in unofficial mods for other games. Those mods do not use the developer controls described above, so they are not a fair guide to how official DLSS 5 games will look.

How to Enable DLSS 5 in NBA 2K27
NVIDIA’s official steps are short. You need an RTX 50 Series GPU, the PC version of NBA 2K27, and an up-to-date driver.
- Update your driver. Install GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 (WHQL) or newer, either from NVIDIA’s website or through the NVIDIA app.
- Open the video settings. Launch NBA 2K27 and go to “Video Settings”.
- Switch it on. Set “DLSS Neural Rendering” to On. This is the DLSS 5 toggle; the game does not label it “DLSS 5”.
- Set the other DLSS options. Configure DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation and NVIDIA Reflex to suit your card and monitor.
- Compare it live. Press F9 to toggle DLSS Neural Rendering on and off during gameplay and replays.
If your frame rate drops too far after enabling it, lean harder on Super Resolution (a Performance mode) and Frame Generation, or drop to 1440p or 1080p.

Can You Use DLSS 5 on GeForce NOW?
Yes, with conditions. NVIDIA says DLSS 5 is available to GeForce NOW Ultimate members playing NBA 2K27, streaming from NVIDIA-operated servers powered by RTX 5080-class hardware. Because the rendering happens in the data centre, the device you play on does not need an RTX 50 Series card; it only has to run the GeForce NOW app and decode the video stream.
For UAE players, that route is not currently a dependable local option. NVIDIA’s regional GeForce NOW page says the service is not supported in the region. For the practical local picture, including available services, device support and connection requirements, read our cloud gaming in the UAE guide. You can also compare likely recurring costs in our guide to cloud gaming subscription prices in the UAE. Until official local support is available, an RTX 50 Series PC or laptop is the dependable way to use DLSS 5 in the UAE.
Is DLSS 5 Worth Upgrading For?
Not on its own, at least not yet. With one supported game and no dates for the next wave, DLSS 5 is a promising feature rather than a reason to replace a working graphics card today. Owners of RTX 40 Series cards also keep everything they already have, including DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation.
The picture changes if you are already planning to buy. A DLSS 5 RTX 50 Series card or laptop is the only hardware that can run DLSS 5, so choosing one now means you get every future DLSS 5 game as patches arrive. NVIDIA also says model updates due this autumn should improve performance beyond the launch baseline, which matters most for the RTX 5060 and RTX 5050.
The sensible approach is to watch two things: when the big titles on the list, such as Resident Evil Requiem, Starfield and Hogwarts Legacy, receive their DLSS 5 patches, and whether those studios use the artistic controls well enough to avoid the criticism the early demos attracted.
