Avatar: Fire and Ash is officially heading to Disney+, giving fans another chance to revisit the world of Pandora from home. According to Variety, the third film in James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar franchise will become available on the streaming platform from June 24. The release comes after a strong theatrical run that made the film one of the biggest box office successes of 2025.
James Cameron Returns With the Third Avatar Film
Directed by James Cameron, Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the story of Jake Sully and his family as they face a powerful new threat on Pandora. The film introduces a dangerous new Na’vi tribe, expanding the world of Avatar beyond the locations and communities seen in the earlier movies. As with the previous films, the story combines family drama, survival, conflict and the larger struggle to protect Pandora.
Returning Cast and New Faces
The movie brings back several major cast members from the franchise. Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully, alongside Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Bailey Bass, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion and Edie Falco.
The third film also adds new names to the franchise, including Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis, who appear in new roles connected to the expanding Avatar universe.

Fire and Ash Became a Major Box Office Hit
Avatar: Fire and Ash was released in theatres on December 19 and has already earned around $1.4 billion worldwide, according to Variety. Its global performance placed it among the biggest Hollywood releases of 2025 to cross the $1 billion mark. Other Disney titles that reached the milestone include Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2.
The success of Fire and Ash has also helped James Cameron’s Avatar films become the highest-grossing film trilogy of all time.
Avatar Remains One of Cinema’s Biggest Franchises
The original Avatar, released in 2009, became the highest-grossing film in global box office history, earning more than $2.9 billion worldwide. Its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, arrived in 2022 and also became a major global hit, collecting around $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
With Fire and Ash adding another huge total, the franchise continues to stand as one of the most commercially successful series in modern cinema.
More Avatar Movies Are Already Planned
James Cameron has already mapped out the future of the franchise. The fourth Avatar film is currently expected to release in 2029, while the fifth installment is scheduled for 2031. Cameron has previously said that the upcoming films will continue exploring the Sully family while also developing new characters introduced in Fire and Ash.
For now, fans who missed the movie in theatres, or want to watch it again, will be able to stream Avatar: Fire and Ash on Disney+ starting June 24.
