Instagram has introduced a refreshed wordmark logo, marking the first major update to this part of its visual identity since 2016. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the change on Instagram and Threads, describing the new design as sharper and more modern while still maintaining references to the original logo and its simplicity.
What’s New About the Instagram Logo?
The updated wordmark keeps Instagram’s familiar script style, but the individual letterforms have been redrawn to create a cleaner and more contemporary appearance. Mosseri explained that the wordmark at the top of the app had remained unchanged for around 10 years, making it time for a refresh without losing the visual character associated with Instagram.

The platform’s last major visual redesign came in 2016, when Instagram replaced its classic brown camera icon with a colorful pink gradient design. The latest update focuses primarily on the wordmark, rather than the main app icon.

The new Instagram logo has received mixed reactions online. While some users welcomed its more modern appearance, others were less impressed by the redesign. Some users even joked that the new font makes the logo look like it says “Instagzam”, pointing to the unusual shape of the letter r. The update represents a small but noticeable change to Instagram’s visual identity as the platform continues to modernize its design while retaining elements of its original branding.
